Project overview

A water intake had to be established roughly 50m offshore, reaching a minimum 4m water depth. WM Directional Drilling bored out under the lakebed and brought the intake line to its offshore exit point without disturbing the shoreline.

Challenge

Most of the effort on a crossing like this happens before the rig arrives: reaching a specific offshore depth and exit point takes months of permitting and planning.

Approach

With the approvals in place and the alignment set, a guided bore was steered from the shore entry out to the offshore exit at the target depth, and the intake line was pulled into place.

Outcome

After months of permitting, the bore itself was completed in a single day.
